As promised, we're continuing our many-part series on the Chevening Scholarship Essay Writing Guide.
Part 1: Crafting an Award-Winning Networking Essay
The Study Plan essay is your opportunity to outline your academic objectives, course choices, major, and future academic ambitions toward your goals. You should also make sure to align your courses with your career goals. Here are some tips and an outline to help you craft a compelling Study Plan essay:
Tips for Writing a Study Plan Essay:
Outline: You should follow the standard rule of writing an essay.
INTRODUCTION
One paragraph only to introduce your academic goals and the lack of expertise in that field in your community or country.
BODY
University 1 (First Choice)
Write 1-2 Paragraphs about the first choice. Make sure your writing answers the following questions:
Why this university?
What Major/course at this university?
What classes will you take (check the university curriculum)
How these courses will help you in your goals
University 2 (Second Choice)
Write 1 paragraph about the second choice. It should answer all the above questions in your first choice.
University 2 (Third Choice)
Write 1 shorter paragraph than the first and second choices answering the same questions.
CONCLUSION
Clearly Defined Goals: Start by clearly defining your academic and relate them to your career goals. What do you aim to achieve through your studies, and how will this contribute to your field and community?
Relevance of Course: Explain why you've chosen a particular course or program. Discuss how it's tailored to your goals and the needs in your country and why it's the right fit for you and your future plans.
Research Focus: Discuss any research or projects you plan to undertake during your studies. For some majors/universities, it is not a requirement which is fine if you ignore it. But, you should do your research and find the requirements.

University Connection: Highlight the specific resources, faculty, or opportunities at your chosen universities that make them ideal places for your studies and their specific offerings. For example, the facilities, research centers, specific authors, writers, experts, or professors teaching in those universities that are in your field of study. Showcase your research and familiarity with the institution, and write what extra-curricular activities will you embark on.
Long-Term Vision: Discuss how your studies will play a part in your long-term vision not just for you and your country but also for the UK and the UK’s policies in your country. How will they contribute to your leadership journey and your ability to bring positive change at the local and international levels?
