Hi friends,
The Chevening Interview requires practice and preparation. I conducted mock interviews to offer a transformative experience for both candidates and myself. I find immense joy in providing detailed feedback to candidates and helping them articulate their points clearly, concisely, and confidently. One of the most rewarding aspects is when we brainstorm on the PROBLEM, SOLUTION, and VISION, witnessing candidates light up with passion and energy as they discover their vision and commit to further preparation for the interview.
One common concern among candidates is how to address the question of failure as a leader. I offer two examples to illustrate this:
Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc. After founding Apple, Jobs was eventually ousted from the company due to disagreements with the board of directors. However, he later returned to Apple when the company was struggling and was able to turn it around into the hugely successful company it is today. During his time away from Apple, Jobs founded another company, NeXT, which struggled to gain traction in the market. However, Jobs was able to learn from the failure of NeXT and apply those lessons when he returned to Apple. He focused on creating products that were both functional and aesthetically pleasing, and he built a strong team that was dedicated to innovation. Through his experiences with both NeXT and Apple, Jobs learned the importance of focusing on product quality and innovation, as well as building a strong team. His failures ultimately led him to become a better leader and a better innovator, and his legacy continues to inspire many in the business world today.
Here is my customized/ simple example of a leader who failed in office, corrected course, and learned from it. This can be an ordinary person like you and me. E.g: Early in my career as the head of a department, I faced criticism for my administration's response to the XXX fire outbreak/oil spill/etc. in the X city/department in 20xx. The administration was criticized for not responding quickly enough and for being too reliant on the X management responsible for the fire outbreak/oil spill/etc. However, I recognized the failure and worked to correct the course. I appointed an independent commission to investigate the PROBLEM and proposed new Plans/regulations/paths for it. I also worked with the Board/Managers/Directors/etc. to pass regulations/funding/training/etc. that would hold Teams, colleagues, employees/contractors/companies accountable for fire outbreaks/oil spills/etc. and would provide greater protections for workers and the environment. Through this experience, I learned the importance of taking swift and decisive action in response to crises, as well as the importance of holding partners/shareholders/employees/managers/etc. accountable for their actions. I also learned the value of working collaboratively with other branches of Companies/Teams/departments/government/NGOs/etc. to achieve meaningful change. Overall, my response to the XXX fire outbreak/oil spill/etc. demonstrates the importance of acknowledging failures and taking steps to correct course. By doing so, leaders can learn from their mistakes and become more effective in their roles.
In my second example, I provided links to everything you need to demonstrate such as Leadership, Networking, Planning, Management, Communication, Creativity, problem-solving skills, and many more. I have many examples in my Preparation course. If you enroll, you will get amazing content that will change you in a matter of a few days.
