Hi friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. In the past few years, I have conducted over 3000 mock interviews with the Chevening Scholarship candidates. Mock interviews can be incredibly valuable for those who are preparing for actual interviews. They provide an opportunity to practice answering common interview questions, receive feedback on your responses, and identify areas for improvement. I have undoubtedly gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that I can share with you. I can’t wait to make new videos and courses to share my experience, knowledge, mistakes, and best examples. I discovered some common mistakes that candidates make during the interviews which I want to share before it is too late.
One of the most common mistakes I noticed is that candidates don't have a clear understanding of their short-term, long-term goals, and vision. Other mistakes or problems are as follows:
🏎️ Lack of preparation: One of the biggest mistakes candidates make is not preparing well for the interview. It's important to research the goal of the Chevening Scholarship and find what kind of candidates they are looking for. This way, the candidates can set their goals, values, and requirements in line with Chevening’s expectations of you.
🎤 Poor communication skills: Communication skills are essential during an interview, and candidates who lack effective communication skills may struggle to convey their ideas or experiences. Some candidates had their amazing worlds and achievements but didn’t know how to articulate their points clearly and convincingly.
🎡 Being too rehearsed: While it's important to practice interview questions beforehand, candidates who come across as too rehearsed may seem insincere or robotic. It's important to be natural and authentic during the interview.
💀 Lack of enthusiasm: Finally, candidates who lack enthusiasm or appear disinterested during the interview may not be considered for the scholarship. Some candidates did not know how to show their interest and enthusiasm for the opportunity, the problem that they wanted to solve, and the change they wanted to bring to their communities, countries, or the world.
⚰️ Not convincing or Realistic Short/mid/long-term goals: Most of the candidates were struggling with their vision and goals. Some even didn’t know what their vision was. You should have a clear understanding of your short-term, and long-term goals, and vision to clearly define who and what you want to become.
